Academics

At The Hive Academy, we offer an internationally recognised American curriculum, designed to prepare students for university in Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States, and around the world.

As an independent school declared to the Rectorat de Nice, we deliver a rigorous academic programme through our partnership with the College Board.

Our approach is built on a clear progression—from strong foundations to academic mastery—ensuring that every student develops the skills, confidence, and independence needed to succeed in higher education and beyond.

Middle School (Grades 6–8): Building the Foundations

In Middle School, students develop the essential academic skills and habits that underpin long-term success.

They learn how to:

•       Read closely and think critically

•       Write clearly and structure arguments

•       Solve problems with logic and precision

•       Organise their work and manage their time effectively

At the same time, they build the habits that matter most—focus, curiosity, resilience, and a sense of responsibility for their learning. This stage ensures that students are fully prepared for the increased pace and expectations of high school.

High School (Grades 9–12): Progression and Specialisation

In High School, students move from skill development to academic depth, independence, and specialisation.

•       Grade 9–10: Students build strong academic foundations through Pre-AP and core courses

•       Grade 10–12: Students begin and expand into Advanced Placement (AP) courses

•       Grade 11–12: Students shape a personalised academic pathway aligned with their strengths, interests, and university ambitions.

This structured progression ensures that each student is supported, challenged, and prepared for the next stage of their education.

Advanced Placement (AP): A Globally Recognised Standard

A central feature of our High School programme is the opportunity to take Advanced Placement (AP) courses.

These are university-level courses that:
       •       Develop advanced subject knowledge and analytical thinking
       •       Prepare students for the expectations of leading universities
       •       Are recognised by universities across the United States and internationally

AP courses allow students to demonstrate not only what they know, but how well they can think, analyse, and apply their learning.

A Broad and Flexible Curriculum

Students can choose from a wide range of subjects across disciplines, combining Advanced Placement courses with specialised and applied learning that reflects the demands of the modern world.

A Personalised Approach

There is no single pathway at The Hive Academy.

Students follow a programme that is carefully adapted to their strengths, goals, and readiness for challenge.
       •       Some students follow a strong high school pathway through core courses
       •       Others choose to take one or two Advanced Placement (AP) courses alongside their core subjects
       •       Some pursue a more ambitious route, taking two to three AP courses per year from Grade 10

We guide each student in making these choices based on:
       •       Academic performance
       •       Work habits and organisation
       •       Motivation and interests
       •       Teacher recommendations

What matters most is not the number of advanced courses taken, but the quality of engagement and success within them.
